Pirates of the Zombie

The students wanted to create a story about a pirate. They discussed who would play the lead roles and who would be the narrator.

IMG_1933Vincent decided to write and narrate the story. Together the class wrote the script. The students created their costumes, props, tickets and practiced their play. They decided who was taking on the different jobs. The teachers helped by providing the materials students requested. Here is the story.

Pirates of the Zombie

A group of students decided to create their own ‘Pirate Story’. They wrote the script together, created the props, decided on the characters and actors, and performed for their peers. They had to work together, negotiate and solve problems as they practiced.

Agency: When students are actively engaged in various stages of learning, including: thinking about, planning, modifying and creating. When students apply their understanding of concepts through the construction of their projects/play.

The Bamboo Forest

Eva and her family visited the Bamboo Forest in China. She shared her experiences with the other students. She enjoyed her trip on the train, seeing the giant pandas and the very tall bamboo trees.

Transitions

The students in Kindergarten visited their buddies in Grade 1, to speak to them about their experiences. The Grade 1 students shared their reflections and offered explanations on what is was like to be a student in Grade 1.

After sharing their writing, the students in Grade 1 took the kindergarteners on a tour around the classroom and then had some outdoor playtime.
