The students discussed what time meant to them. We shared our thinking and recored our ideas on chart paper. Then students made a timeline of their daily activities. They drew pictures and included labels/sentences to share their daily activities in sequence.
Next students made their own clocks to help them read the time.
We watched the BrainPOP video on ‘Time’.
The students matched analog and digital times. They recorded their learning in their Maths journals.
The students have been working with rhyming words. They have been listening carefully while looking for patterns in words. These hands-on activities have encouraged students to read, rhyme, match and recognise rhyming words in stories and poems.
The students have been working with High Frequency Words over the last few weeks. Games, activities and guided reading lessons help students learn to identify, read and write these words that are most often hard to sound out. Here is a flash card with some of the words we use frequently in class.
Every month the students who have celebrated their birthday get together to bake for their friends. This is a special activity for the ‘Birthday Buddies’ as they get to work together in a small group to cook and celebrate their special day. It is also an authentic opportunity to focus on key learning outcomes. While baking students measure ingredients, follow a recipe and a sequence, collaborate, discuss, pay attention to detail while having FUN!
Ms. Emily has been reading a few different stories about snowmen in light of the holiday celebrations. The students enjoyed creating their own snowman after listening to the stories. Read aloud stories encourages the students to listen and respond to texts. 
K2 explored their senses with Ms. Cassie and Ms. Betina. This is linked to our unit on How We Express Ourselves. Here is a list of the 7 senses that students explored at a variety of activity centres.
